Anthony's strange adventures in Bizarre O’ World Okay now I've heard of people selling things in pubs and off the back of lorrys but when a couple of blokes, in a van, on the busy Chiswick High Road, call me over and ask me if I want to buy a couple of £800 speakers that they have spare (the suppliers having it seems inadventantly put too many sets in the van) then I knew I've entered that strange mythological world. Firstly they called me over cause I looked 'cool' (immediately suspicious I think you'll agree), they introduced themselves as sound engineers making a delivery to a studio nearby, and said they'd been given one too many sets of speakers, did I want a pair? But of course I had to give them a little cash as compensation for their trouble. It took a lot of effort on my part to actually persuade them that no I didn't want to buy some speakers, not even at the knock down price of £200, and even if I did, which I didn't, I didn't have any money to buy them with, besides they're too big. They then said 'oh we have some smaller ones'. I neglected to mention to them that I was a sound engineer myself and had never heard of the make of speakers they were trying to 'give away'. At that point I left saying I needed to buy my groceries, 'but I thought you didn't have any money' they shouted back. Hmmm food or stereophonic listening pleasure, tough one ;-) Bizarre, made me laugh though. I am seriously looking forward to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, although it'll be a while before it's out over here. It looks really funny to me, but then I'm a Kevin Smith fan so it would do ;-)
A bed is never empty when you share it with your teddy bear. Sometimes I get all maudlin late at night at work, disappears by the following morning, just one of those things I suppose. My bear is very thread bear now, he's very old and he's second hand, I found him at a junk sale when I was 7 and paid 20 pence for him, but he's mine and I wouldn't part with him, you'll see him ina photo next to wiggi on this site. I'm wore my shorts outside for the first time this year today, not because it hasn't been warm enough before, but just because I didn't own any that fitted until today. You can tell I enjoy clothes shopping can't you ;-) Tuesday, July 24, 2001

Yay for unplanned things :-) From low and feeling depressed on Friday morning, to happy and jolly Tuesday evening, five days off has done me the world of good. Sunday saw my oldest friend Nigel and rented Pitch Black, Monday got High Fidelity on DVD and on scooted off down to Bournemouth to see my gran. It's all been good fun, back to work tomorrow but who cares. Sunday, July 15, 2001
Ow, my back aches, probably the result of too much jumping around. Went an saw the Original Bedroom Rockers at Mass in Brixton, the venue was a tad on the empty side, but as I knew Steve who's band it is, I got to drink some of his rider so it was good fun. The journey home was a long one, two different night buses and a walk from Hammersmith, but I did get chatting to a very nice italian girl. She'd been chatted up by a guy on the bus who'd been trying to foist ihis telephone number on her, we got off at the same stop and she started to chat to me instead. Midnight flirtations, fun :-) Got in at 3am woke up at 12 and I'm still tired. Saturday, July 14, 2001
Popped home to my parents yesterday, and then went and saw Wiggi who was in the process of putting a T-shirt on his dog to stop him scratching, Huxley (the dog) was not happy. Friday, July 13, 2001

The good weekend hangover, combined with working every evening so far this week, has kind of wiped off my normal general chirpiness. Thank bob I have a five day weekend and some things planned to do. Monday, July 09, 2001
I'm asleep on my feet today, and working from lunchtime to 10pm really doesn't help. *Finds somewhere to snooze for a while*
That was a really fun weekend, Saturday I went to the h2g2 meet, got very drunk with my wonderful friends, hugged a very lovely girl with whom I have some very embarassing picture's sitting on Chris's camera, went home and passed out. Sunday I had a great English breakfast with Chris at a local greasy spoon, went and saw the appauling bad Tomb Raider, went out for a hot chocolate with a few friends, then went and saw Shrek with them too. So two films, one hug, twentytwo photos and lots of booze, a successful weekend, bedtime. Friday, July 06, 2001
My mad, Irish, talkative friend is having her wisdom removed today, and being scared of dentists it's not something she's looking forward to. Personally I'm scared of haircuts more, and considering she's a hairdresser that could seem a little strange. Good luck sweetie you'll be fine :-) Tuesday, July 03, 2001

I saw Belle and Sebastian live at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday for the first time, they were brilliant, but in an unusual way. It was kind of like watching a school band play, they all had a really awkward stage presence, like they really didn't want to be there performing. It was very awkward for the first few songs but they broke the ice when they were interupted by the muppet critics shouting, with the aid of a microphone, 'it's awful' at the back of the hall. Stuart, the lead singer, then asked if one of the audience would like to try and do any better, of course someone volunteered. She was to put it kindly awful, but it was a wonderful moment and Stuart danced like your dad with another member of the audience at the front of the stage. It was all set up, but it didn't matter and from that moment the band and the audience really started to enjoy themselves. A good gig :-) |
